Jonathon: Scythe (by Neal Shusterman) is based in the future when we have gotten so advanced where we have basically cheated death so much so if you die you can come back. The only real way to truly die is by a Scythe, people who are chosen to end lives. They tell people that it is random, that it is a three out of three thousand percent chance, but they actually choose three out of three hundred. It can be based on drugs, behavior, criminal activity and much more. Identify a key conflict. The main conflict in the book is death, why people should die and the kids who are becoming Scythes. Now don’t think these kids are crazy; they don’t want to kill people, but that is the first step of becoming a Scythe. The main plot is the two kids not wanting to kill people and the troubles they go through. They know why people should die but they do not want to kill them because they think it is wrong. |
