Sebastian: While reading Unfinished Tales by J.R.R.Tolkien, I discovered that out of the five wizards known as Istari that came to Middle-Earth, Gandalf is the wisest and most caring out of the five. In contrast, Saruman only seeks power and control to make Middle-Earth his kingdom. One scene in The Fellowship of the Ring illustrates these admirable qualities in Gandalf. When Frodo says "I wish it need not have happened in my time," Gandalf responds "So do I, and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us." This is why I think Gandalf is the wisest and most caring out of the five wizards and that small deeds of good change the world. |
