Amandine: In this timeline and world of My Hero Academia: Vol. 1 (by Kohei Horikoshi), many people in the population possess a power, which is called a quirk. Everyone has a unique quirk, no two are the same. In this world, those with quirks have the possibility of becoming a hero, and protecting civilians who have no quirk from villains. A key conflict in this book is that the main character, Izuku Midoriya, is born without a quirk, which is also known as being quirkless. He wants to be a hero more than anything, but his dream is crushed when he figures out he won't be getting a quirk. Even though there are no quirkless heroes, he still wants to become one. He later meets the greatest heroes of all time who is also his role model, and asks him if there is any way for him to be a hero without a quirk. The hero does not answer him, and leaves to go back to work. On his way home, Izuku runs into a villain and sees one of his classmates being attacked. Even though he doesn't have a quirk, Izuku runs over to try to help his classmate, who has a quirk and doesn't want his help. But the two boys were not alone, many heroes had come to the scene to try to help. However, none of the heroes had jumped in to help yet. Izuku did not really help, but inspired a hero in the crowd, who just so happened to be the number one hero. On his way home from the attack, Izuku was stopped by the number one hero, whose name was All Might. All Might then told Izuku about his quirk which was called "One For All." All Might's quirk had been passed down through generations, and All Might asked if Izuku wanted to be his successor. Izuku said yes of course, and started training with All Might to learn how to use his new quirk. The only downside to this was that now All Might's quirk would slowly vanish, as Izuku's would grow. There are many more reasons that this decision affects the plot, but not all are said in the first volume. |
